How to Have Fun While Traveling in Thailand and Stay Safe? 10 Rules to Remember That Could Save Your Life.
Chinese actor Wang Xing, who traveled to Thailand to film, has gone missing along the Thai-Myanmar border. The news quickly spread. Wang Xing, known for his roles in popular TV dramas such as "The Story of Rose" and "The Hunting Crime Map," added a contact person after seeing a casting notice in an actor recruitment group. After successfully auditioning, he was arranged to go to Thailand to join the production. Upon arrival in Bangkok, he was taken by the contact person, who claimed they were heading to a launch ceremony. However, tracking the route, it became clear that the car was going further off track. On January 3, Wang Xing disappeared near the Thai-Myanmar border and has not been in contact for several days. The Chinese Consulate in Chiang Mai has followed up on the case, hoping for a safe resolution.

Despite the Thai government's increased efforts in recent years to crack down on telecom fraud groups operating near the Myanmar border—dismantling and arresting multiple transnational scam networks and hideouts within Thailand—they have also developed the "Thailand Tourist Police" app, which features SOS emergency assistance and GPS tracking. However, incidents where tourists are scammed and suffer financial losses in Thailand still occur from time to time.
So how can you enjoy your trip to Thailand while also ensuring your personal safety and protecting your property? We've stayed up late to put together 10 essential safety tips to help you enjoy your time in Siam with peace of mind and joy.
1.Choose Official and Licensed Services
Book your travel services—such as tour packages, day trips, airport transfers, and hotel accommodations—through official and reputable travel or hotel websites. Never risk your safety by choosing suspicious or unverified websites just because they offer lower prices.
2.Choose Safe Transportation
Choose legitimate transportation options, such as licensed taxis, official airport transfer counters, or ride-hailing services like Grab. Do not risk your safety by opting for unverified vehicles just to save money or time.
3.Back Up Important Information
Backup important information such as your passport, ID card, visa, flight tickets, hotel booking, and emergency contact details. Keep one copy with you and leave another with family or friends. This will be helpful in case you need to report an emergency or contact the embassy.
4.Be Cautious of People Who Speak Chinese.
Be cautious of strangers who approach or are overly enthusiastic, especially when they speak Chinese. When it comes to sensitive issues such as money, job opportunities, or personal information, do not trust them easily. Avoid sharing personal details, payment habits, preferences, or travel plans without careful consideration.
5. Spend at Legal Establishments
Choose to spend at regular tourist attractions, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments. Avoid going to unregulated places, small shops, or remote alleys out of curiosity or with certain purposes (such as involvement in illegal activities), as these are often traps set by criminal groups.
6.Do Not Flaunt Your Wealth
When carrying valuables, do not leave your luggage, backpack, or other belongings unattended. Avoid exposing valuables in crowded places, refrain from wearing overly conspicuous luxury items, and avoid discussing the money you carry in loud conversations. Always keep an eye on your personal belongings while resting in public transport or public areas.
7. Do Not Participate In Illegal Activities
Do not participate in or visit illegal activities such as gambling, prostitution, or drug-related events, as it can make you a target for criminals.
8.Avoid Secluded and Less Crowded Areas
Apart from the hotel, try to stay in busy areas or central commercial districts, and avoid going to secluded and less populated places. Whenever possible, travel in pairs or groups to avoid being alone.
9. Stay in Touch with the Outside World
Keep your communication devices, such as mobile phones, available and regularly stay in touch with family, friends, or your travel agency to inform them of your safety and travel plans.
10.Download the "Thailand Tourist Police" App, Which Has SOS Assistance and GPS Location Functions, Allowing You to Quickly Get Help in Emergency Situations.
Download the official "Thailand Tourist Police" app from the Thai government on your smartphone or tablet. The app includes SOS and GPS location functions. In case of an emergency or suspicious individuals and events, you can report through the app, and the police will be able to locate you quickly based on the GPS.
In fact, as long as you remain free from greed and distractions and maintain a certain level of vigilance, it is already the first firewall to keep crime at bay. Keep these ten rules in mind, and I wish everyone a safe, secure, enjoyable, and relaxing holiday in Thailand.
